John 14:15-31

There are moments in life when everything feels uncertain.

Worry, fear and anxiety.

And their hearts are troubled.

What will we do without Him?

He gives them a promise — one promise built on another.

1. He Promises His Presence

16-17 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.

What I've been to you, the Spirit will continue to be.

Well, it's all of the above.

Someone who doesn't just send you best wishes from a distance, but who gets close and stays close.

18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

I will be there for you, again and again — in this way, and that way.

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)

"I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

That changes everything.

2. He Promises Us Peace

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

It’s life as it’s meant to be: safe and secure and held together by God.

He is anchored in His mission.

"I do not give as the world gives."

Jesus gives peace so you can stand when everything falls apart.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

But our lives don't have to be ruled by turmoil.

3. He Invites Our Response

"And this is what I ask of you."

He talks about the connection between love and faithfulness.

He's showing them how to deepen it.

If you want to love me as I have loved you, here's what that looks like.

It's about letting His words shape the way you think, the way you respond, and the way you live.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35)

It is a committed alignment.

"If you want to love me, stay close to me."

"Abide in me."

Our faithfulness to His teaching is what follows.

There are moments when life takes a turn and everything changes.
